I had posted about and wished for in

the Gift Guide that I made with Doris.

Remember that?

It's here now on our bookshelf at home.

We got book set number 324 out of 1000,

 it is very beautiful and very worth it.

The best thing about having these kinds of books with so much

 content is that they will always surprise you.

 

I like to pick out a book from the shelf

and just turn to a random page.

A picture you have already seen before may have a 

different meaning to you now.

Actually, am not, but I would be really happy if I was.

(Big Sur is on my wishlist of places to visit)

 

Though it is nice to take a mental trip via

Wren's cute Spring 2012 Lookbook.

Where I imagine perpetual tans, 

  tops down on cars, 1950's Hollywood,

pink sky deserts à la Robert Altman's film 3 Women,

and dusty gold sun the same color as

a silk collared top. Things like that.

YOU CAN'T PUT YOUR ARMS AROUND A MEMORY

 

 

Made a New York themed collage for Free People's Blog,

where I also answered a few city related questions,

like my favorite museum and such -

which explains why a photo of the Neue is taped up with Patti Smith.

The photo of Patti Smith came from a book that I got

for Andrew:

 

Bande à part,

New York Underground in the 60s, 70s, and 80s

 

 

He and I always say that if we ever found ourselves

with a time machine our first stop would be New York during those eras.

I'll have to settle with this book and I'll still take the city as it is now,

even when it is like ice.

It means being able to curl up in my favorite layers,

lately its been this United Bamboo Plaid Knit Cardigan.

CRAZY FOR CARVEN

 

"A current exhibition in Paris of American photographer Diane Arbus’s timeless 1960s portraits was the starting point for Guillaume Henry’s inaugural pre-fall collection for Carven. 'It was pre-ready to wear; women had to wear the same clothes for a long time, so they’d really take care of them,' he explained. Already, with only five previously publicized seasons for the house, Henry has established out a classicism of his own. That charming collegiate vision—voluminous above-the-knee dresses, fitted shirts with Peter Pan collars and shrunken jackets with high-set pockets—was out in force, only this time delivered in an unexpected mix of autumnal tones (forest greens, mustard, violet, turquoise, and icy blues), which were inspired, in the designer’s words, by a frozen landscape." -Esther Adams Review on Vogue.com

 

Am so in love with the Carven Pre-Fall 2012 Collection! Even though this won't be out until the next Fall season, it's always nice to be inspired by a collection that is in tune with the weather around you. I love all of the layering in each look, it makes me want to go out and buy a big chunky men's turtleneck sweater, which sounds so perfect for the city's freezing temperatures right now.

I was really lucky to get some Carven pieces this past season - a plaid buttondown, striped sweater, burgundy dress and most recently a black felted cardigan and a blazer, pictured above. The Pocketed Wool-Flannel blazer I nabbed on Net-a-porter on super markdown the day their sale finished and I'm really glad I went for it. The fit is beautiful! There is a little structure in the shoulders, the pockets sit a bit high and it's tailored but still boyish at the same time.

I've been pairing the jacket with my pale pink Celine Trio, I think the two make a good match.
