DOWN BY THE BAY

 

If a fog ever settles over the ocean beach, head on over to the back end towards the bay. It will be clear blue skies, swim and see through to the bottom of the gentle water.

Oh Hello

 

 

 

 

A little while ago, I finally made a visit up to the new Celine store on Madison Avenue. For better reasons, I wanted to say hello to an old friend who works there (Hi C!xx). The store is beautiful! Can we talk about that leather floral motorcycle jacket? I mean. How can that even exist. 

I ended up going with a bi-color cabas tote in black and tan. It's going to be the perfect carryall for all of my sketchbooks, books and cameras... all things I want to take around with me outside this summer. 

The store is right next door to Laduree, where Hello Kitty is the theme. Grew up collecting that little cat, couldn't help but pop a little box into my new tote.

The kick off

 

 

 

The latest pile of visual inspiration on my desk - a copy of Lula, Love On The Left bank by Ed van der Elsken which was gifted to Andrew (Thank you Nxx) and the Bruce Silverstein Gallery catalog of Brancusi: The Photographs. Highly recommend visiting the beautiful Brancusi show, also worth taking a peek into the Lucio Fontana exhibit and the Ernesto Neto installation if you are in the area.

The editorials in Lula are the perfect images to kick off this Holiday weekend, the official start to Summer. We're doing a quick daytrip with Rocky to Montauk, can't think of a better way to get into it.

 A little Fashion Illustration, that I've been dabbling on in between work. A lot of recent projects have been based on just handwriting, so I made a new section on my portfolio website that summarizes my lettering work to make it easier for clients to view all in one place:

Some new watercolor colors I'm trying out,

on top of lookbook photos from the French brand,

Roseanna

The new store Warm in NoLita carries this line

and it caught my eye, some very cute stuff!

Just down the street from Warm,

had a girls evening out getting nail art done at 

Valley Nails.

My first foray into the world of nail art,

with a pale pink gradient gel manicure and a little

hand painted floral print on each ring finger.

Feel an addiction coming on...

Stocking up on some new products:

Aesop Parsley Seed Serum, Byredo Gypsy Water Lotion,

La Roche-Posay SPF, some Aesop Lip Cream

and not pictured, a fresh jar of Coconut Oil (thanks mom).

An afternoon in

THE ILLUSTRATED CITY No. 12

AN AFTERNOON IN: BROOKLYN / NEW YORK

 

Favorite daily routine neighborhood haunts - coffee break at Bakeri, lunch across the street at Diner or Marlow, flowers at Sprout and chocolate break at Mast Brothers' new bakery set up. Mixed in with collages from some recent art exhibits - the opening of À Rebours at Venus Over Manhattan and going to outerspace with Tom Sach's Space Program: Mars at the Park Avenue Armory (loved! especially the space machine powered by Chanel).

Haven't done a little "An Afternoon In" post since Paris and being able to walk around whenever the weather turns always makes me realize that my own neighborhood and city can be pretty damn sweet, too. Andrew got us a new Canon 5D setup, which is one powerful camera. I've been enjoying using it along with some of our old film cameras and my iPhone to look around me with new eyes. 

I've taken to tumblr to post random pictures taken. So if you're interested, you can follow me there, for more regular updates on places seen and other snaps from recent art exhibits. There are a bunch of shows I'd like to pop into soon:

Prada/Schiaparelli at The Met, Brancusi at Bruce Silverstein, Richard Prince at 303, Wes Lang at Half Gallery, Agnes Martin/Vija Celmins at Starr Gallery.

Pulling color inspiration from some pictures that I like, the film stills are from "Les Biches" by Claude Chabrol. This was one of the first movies that I blogged about long long ago, I recently re-watched it and the images and tones in movie seem so fresh to me again.

Never realized how much I really love the color lilac - recently got a lilac colored open back Carven "honeycomb" sweater. Sitting along some of my favorite rings, Alicia found this beautiful antique Victorian Opal ring at Erie Basin and gave it a home with me. Extra hearts because it is my birthstone.

The sweater is my first Carven pick this season, I've been trying to be really good with waiting to buy things I've been coveting til sales start at the end of the month. There are so many things I want. You know you have a problem when sale day at Barneys is marked on you calendar!
