"I had no sense of how it would look, just that it should be true. The only thing I promised Robert was that I would wear a clean shirt with no stains on it. I went to the Salvation Army on the Bowery and bought a stack of white shirts. Some were too big for me, but the one I really liked was neatly pressed with a monogram below the breast pocket... I cut the cuffs off the sleeves to wear under my black jacket adorned with the horse pin that Allen Lanier had given me… The corner window cast a shadow creating a triangle of light, and Robert wanted to use it in the photograph… There was a massive prism that refracted the light, breaking it into rainbows cascading on the wall across from a white radiator. Robert placed me by the triangle. His hands trembled slightly as he readied to shoot. I stood. A cloud went by and the triangle disappeared."
The style name, The Patti, implies just how great these button downs by Acne are. Just in time for a new fall mood, earlier this week I checked the Patti Smith, Bowery portrait by Godlis that I have always wanted off my wish list. Arriving later this month, she’s going to fill in a blank space, a perfect moment in time.
The burgundy Byredo leather travel case I picked up at Barneys when I went to re-stock on scents. Without me saying a word, the guy at the counter says, “let me guess, you’re a Gypsy Water girl.” He’s right, it has been my mainstay, occaisionally changing it up with Accord Oud that I share with the boy. With the travel case, I love that vial pops out so easily so that you can interchange the scent; depending on season, mood and place.
It will be just the thing for when we go to Tulum at the end of October and for the trip I am planning to Paris in March. There are a lot of things to be happy about and also somewhat new grown up responsibilities coming with a birthday in a few weeks, but really feel like just a kid.
